TfL Ref: FOI-2210-2425
Thank you for your request which we received on 11 October 2024, asking for information about penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued to taxi drivers.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
We are aware that some taxi drivers have received PCNs incorrectly due to a system issue. We have written to vehicle owners to confirm they do not need to take any action, and that any PCNs that have been incorrectly issued will be cancelled.
You specifically asked for:
- the number of PCN's incorrectly issued.
Our records show a total of 7,563.
- The cost of issuing the incorrect PCN's. If such a cost is not available, please provide the calculated cost of issuing an PCN to TfL.
I can confirm we do hold the information you have requested. However, in accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to provide it as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 43(2). Please see this published response FOI request detail - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk) for the reason behind the use of the exemption.
- any internal report/review into this matter
We do not hold this. We are aware of how the issue occurred and have taken corrective action.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
