Our ref: FOI- 2209-1617
Thank you for your email received by us on 8 February 2017 asking for information about the number of cleaners at London Underground (LU) stations. I apologise for the delay in replying to you.
We have considered your request in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm we do hold some of the information you require. You asked:
Could you please tell me the total number of cleaners employed to clean the TFL train stations for the following years (as of a representative date, such as 10th January 20XX for each year respectively):
2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
We our outsource cleaning on our network as part of our Facilities Management Contract. Within the contact, the defined standard of cleaning is maintained, and does not specify a number of cleaners our outsourced service provider should employ. However, the number of station cleaning staff at LU stations currently equates to circa 400 to 500 shifts per day.
We do not have a specific headcount for previous years for the same reason as the contract is outsourced.
If this is not the information you are looking for, please feel free to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely,
Melissa Nichols
