Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 January 2021 asking for information about old bus specifications.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

1. Can you release outdated and superseded versions of the London Bus specification from 2011 to present day?

2.   Can you release the specification for the bodywork exterior and interior (flooring, seating & colours) of the New Routemaster, Enviro400 City (as used for routes 20, 26, 78, 133, 333 & 388) and SRM (as used for routes 37 & 183).

We don’t have separate requirements for interior and exterior bodywork. Individual operator colour schemes and corporate branding is down to the individual bus operators. The current information we hold on this is included in the most recent bus specification version and BVS attachments (December 2020) also attached.  The only other document which is specific to a vehicle type is the NRM which we have provided from 2013. All other buses including the SRMs or Enviro400 City’s would need to comply with the details of the current generic bus vehicle bus specification.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.
