Our ref: FOI-2166-1617
Thank you for your e-mail received on 4 February 2017 asking for information about the Metropolitan Line Extension (MLX).
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.
The MLX is being delivered by Transport for London (TfL) and is jointly funded by TfL, DfT, Hertfordshire County Council, Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership. The current agreed funding package for the project amounts to £284.4 million made up of £125.35 million of local funding, £109.82 million from the DfT and £49.23 million from TfL.
Since TfL took over the delivery of the MLX project from Hertfordshire County Council in November 2015, it has undertaken substantial design development and enabling work, which is due to complete later in the spring. In parallel, TfL is also continuing to undertake a detailed review - working with the supply chain and Network Rail - of the costs of the MLX. Once the review is complete TfL will be in a position to properly assess the suitability of the funding arrangements.
An integrated programme for construction and delivery remains under development and so TfL is not in a position currently to give a firm date for commencement of the main works on site. The programme end date is 2020.
