FOI request detail

stations daily entry and exit data

Request ID: FOI-2155-2122
Date published: 11 January 2022

You asked

I would like to request daily, station-level entries and exits data on the TfL network (Underground, Overground, and TfL Rail) for the full calendar years of 2014-2019 please I note that data in this format is already available for a shorter timeframe (13/06/2017-12/08/2018) http://on tap.data.tfl.gov.uk/ - if possible, I would like the data for the extended timeframe of 2014-2019 in the exact same format please If it is not possible to supply the data for 2014-2019, I would be also happy at this stage to receive just the data for calendar years 2016 and 2017

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2155-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 December 2021, asking for daily station entries and exits on the TfL network from 2014 to 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm TfL holds some of the information you require.

Unfortunately, we do not hold daily data at entry and exit level for all stations going back this far. We can provide a ‘typical’ days volumes across each year or if you could limit the size of your request e.g. a subset of days, then we may be able to accommodate this.

For typical day station usage, we have annual counts data from 2017 available at http://crowding.data.tfl.gov.uk/.  For annual counts before 2017 please see ‘Entry and Exit figures by station’ available at https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/london-underground-performance-reports?resource=b6ab04fc-9062-4291-b514-7fa218073b4c.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
