Information about bus stop plan for TW1

You asked
F/on from FOI-2028-1819
Is it ok if I ask you for clarification on some of the points of your response?
1. Bus stop relocation
Thank you for confirming the distance between the current bus stop and bus stop flag vs relocated bus stop and bus stop flag.
• Can you please confirm the same in regards to the kerb (how much to the East in meters vs current will the kerb be relocated).
• In the new bus stop location, the shelter seems to be at greater distance to the kerb. Can you please confirm how far to the East will the bus on the new location be able to drive to in relation to the current bus location (= real/likely location where bus will physically stop vs current) ?
2. Distance between bus stops
Thank you for clarifying the distance between current bus stops of one direction (in this case going towards Richmond). My question was related to the noise pollution and therefore I would like to know the distance between bus stops in general, on all sides of the road.
• Are there specific guidelines for this?
• Can you please also include on your map, the bus stops on all sides of the road, not just going one direction, so mapping out what is the distance between the bus stop of Ryde Place currently in relations to the Cresswell bus stop going towards Hounslow and what will be the new distance with the relocated bus stop.
3. Noise pollution and making a formal complaint
• Can you please clarify how make a formal complaint regarding noise pollution linked to a bus stop?
• Are there any organisations that help residents deal with this type of issues that TFL work with or know about?
• What sort of evidence have been provided in case where residents were successfully able to make a case for noise pollution?
We answered
Our ref: FOI-2142-1819/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 November 2018 asking for further information about the relocation of a bus stop.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.
- Bus Stop relocation
- Can you please confirm the same in regards to the kerb (how much to the East in meters vs current will the kerb be relocated).
The kerb line is to be raised not relocated to give a 140mm high accessible kerb height which is standard at bus stops across London to ease wheelchair access via bus ramp to and from buses. The kerb line adjustments at each end of the shallow lay-by are to be altered to allow buses to enter/exit the lay-by easier.
- In the new bus stop location, the shelter seems to be at greater distance to the kerb. Can you please confirm how far to the East will the bus on the new location be able to drive to in relation to the current bus location (= real/likely location where bus will physically stop vs current) ?
The shelter distance to kerb edge can vary providing we do not breach street furniture location guidelines which state no street furniture should be set closer that 450mm from the kerb edge. TfL aim to achieve a 500mm to 600mm minimum this all depends on the width of footway and what’s on that footway.
Buses will stop approx. 5 to 5.5 metres further East.
2. Distance between bus stops
Thank you for clarifying the distance between current bus stops of one direction (in this case going towards Richmond). My question was related to the noise pollution and therefore I would like to know the distance between bus stops in general, on all sides of the road.
- Are there specific guidelines for this?
TfL’s guidelines for distance between bus stops is 400 metres in same direction but as stated this is not a fixed distance, if you are referring to distance between bus stops in opposite direction on opposite sides of the road there are no fixed guidelines.
- Can you please also include on your map, the bus stops on all sides of the road, not just going one direction, so mapping out what is the distance between the bus stop of Ryde Place currently in relations to the Cresswell bus stop going towards Hounslow and what will be the new distance with the relocated bus stop.
Current distance is approx. 65 metres distance - will be approx. 60 metres.
