FOI request detail

Temporary barricades/bollards

Request ID: FOI-2137-2122
Date published: 18 January 2022

You asked

Since the start of the pandemic how much money did TfL spend - and continue to spend - on temporary barricades/bollards to enable social distancing and/or for infrastructure segregation?

We answered

Our ref: FOI-2137-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 December 2021 asking for information about temporary barricades/bollards.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

We are unable to provide specific costs for barricades/bollards and segregation infrastructure only as separating out this information would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with requests if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. In this instance, we estimate that the time required to answer your request would exceed 18 hours which, at £25 per hour (the rate stipulated by the Regulations), exceeds the ‘appropriate limit’.

We can however, advise that in response to the pandemic, Transport for London (TfL) has spent £55m on the London Streetspace Programme (LSP) in financial year 2020-21 and are forecasting a further £19m to the end of financial year 2021-22. This includes both TfL and Borough funding allocations on the delivery of social distancing measures, temporary and permanent cycling infrastructure, Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, school streets, LSP monitoring and other measures. It should be noted that the figures provided include labour, materials, and other indirect costs, and are up to the end of the current financial year.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
