We answered

TfL Ref 2136-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 January 2021 asking for information about the crossing at the junction of Foresters Drive/Leabridge Road E17 3PG.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

  1. How much is the Copenhagen style crossing costing ?

We have obtained an estimated cost of the Copenhagen crossing which is currently being installed by the London Borough of Waltham Forest as the responsible highway authority, of £24,000. You may want to contact them directly for further information. The link to their website is: https://www.walthamforest.gov.uk/content/make-freedom-information-request-foi

  1. Why wasn't  this work carried out 18 months ago when the cycle path was installed?

The Lea Bridge Road scheme was built under the Mini Holland Programme. LB Waltham Forest extended the scheme along Woodford New Road in 2019/20. The transition point between the two schemes is at the Foresters Road junction. Waltham Forest installed an interim measure to link the two schemes together but have now installed the permanent solution providing a continuous footway and cycle track connection.

  1. What is the purpose of a Copenhagen type crossing?

Copenhagen crossings prioritise pedestrians, improve streetscape legibility and maintain traffic through flow.

  1. If you have not funded this work who has?

Transport for London provided funding for the scheme from the Local Implementation Programme.

  1. Who authorised  the work to be carried out?

LB Waltham Forest, as the responsible highway authority.
