I would like to request the current number of buses (as of September 19th 2023) operated by TfL that run on diesel and what percentage of the overall bus fleet this makes up. Thank you.

Thank you for your request which we received on 19 September 2023.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and our information access policy.  I can confirm TfL does hold the information you require. You asked:

I would like to request the current number of buses (as of September 19th 2023) operated by TfL that run on diesel and what percentage of the overall bus fleet this makes up.

There are approximately 3,700 diesel buses and 3,800 hybrid buses in the fleet. Diesel and hybrid buses make up around 86% of the bus fleet.

An audit of the London bus contracted fleet is carried out once a year. The latest data, as of 31 March 2023,  is published on the TfL website here: - https://content.tfl.gov.uk/fleet-annual-audit-report-31-march-2023.pdf
