We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-2133-1819

Thank you for your request received on 14 November 2018 asking for information about private hire driver licence revocations. I apologise for the delay in my response.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

1. How many private hire driver licenses have you suspended or revoked since Sept 2017 - to date?

Our latest report shows that between 1 September 2017 and 29 October 2018 we revoked 465 private hire driver licences. Please note that we can only accurately report on the current status of a licence, therefore these figures are liable to change, for example as the result of legal proceedings. For this reason, we have not provided information on historical licence suspensions as these may have changed in the intervening period. Suspensions may have either become permanent licence revocations or may have been waived, for example in the case of an appeal.

2. Of the private hire driver licence suspensions or revocations, how many drivers have you taken to court?
3. From the unsuccessful court hearings how much in total costs were TfL ordered to pay the drivers or drivers lawyers by the court?

We do not take drivers to court for the suspension or revocation of their licence. It is for those affected to lodge an appeal in the Magistrates’ Court if they intend to challenge our decision to suspend or revoke their licence.

Further details can be found by visiting our website www.tfl.gov.uk/tph.
