Pest Control

Request ID: FOI-2108-1819
Date published: 12 December 2018

You asked

For each of the last three financial years (which includes the present financial year) a) The number of times pest controllers have been called in by TfL to treat pests on tube trains. Please break this down by the type of pest that needed removing, and, if applicable, on which lines; By ‘pest’, I mean animal pests such as vermin and insects rather than invasive plant species etc. b) The total cost of pest control to TfL on the Underground.

We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-2108-1819

Thank you for your request received by on 12 November 2018 asking for information about pest control on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and TfL’s information access policy.

We do not hold the information you have requested. London Underground is managed in different operational areas organised around groups of lines. The method of apportioning pest control costs varies according to the contract type, for example in some cases there is a specific contracted service for this and in others, pest control is one element of a fee for a contract that is wider in scope. Therefore we do not hold an overall cost for pest control on the London Underground. Almost all of the issues with pests on the London Underground, such as rodents and pigeons, have been at stations or in depots or under bridges rather than on the trains themselves.

Please accept our apologies that we are unable to assist you further on this occasion.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
