We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-2107-1819

Thank you for your request received by on 12 November 2018 asking for information about bed bug infestations.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and TfL’s information access policy.

We do not hold the information you have requested. As far as we are aware, the bus fleet has not been adversely affected by bed bug infestations in the years in question. Buses are cleaned at the end of each shift and undergo a deep clean at intervals. During the mid life of a bus, they are also refurbished including replacement of seat covers.

With regard to the London Underground, we do not look specifically for bed bug infestation and therefore do not have any records of such events. All of our lines have a rigorous cleaning schedule in place for both the interior and exterior of the trains in order to provide a pleasant environment for our customers. We have several contracts that involve pest management across London Underground. The method of apportioning pest control costs varies according to the contract, as in some cases there is a specific contracted pest control service, whilst in other contracts, pest control is just one activity provided as part of a wider range of services for a larger contract fee. Pest control activity provided under contract includes, but is not limited to, removal from the network of dead vermin like mice or pigeons, removal of droppings, spraying of insecticide or pesticide, and the repair of damaged pigeon netting or spikes.

Please accept our apologies that we are unable to assist you further on this occasion.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
