Thank you for your web request received on 27 January 2017 asking for information about Canada Water station closures. I apologise for the delay in replying.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
There have been no reported full station closures at Canada Water due to congestion between 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016. The definition of a full station closure is when all lines non-stop and all entrances are closed to customers. This essentially means completely clearing the station of customers to maintain a safe environment. Full station closures are unusual, as we are typically able to manage congestion through partial station closures (local station control), however, safety always remains our top priority and as such, we cannot rule out this possibility if needed.
However, there have been a number of occasions when the station has been partially closed due to congestion. This involves non-stopping on one or more platforms/lines within the station with some entrances, interchange or exits being temporarily closed. This essentially means keeping the station open whilst managing the flow of customers to maintain a safe and reliable service. This is usually implemented to prevent any congestion on platforms and escalators etc. Our staff carefully manage the flows of customers at the station to ensure a safe travel environment and minimum inconvenience for customers.
Attached is details of all reported partial station closures for the requested data range for Canada Water station. This includes gateline closure instances for 2015 and 2016, which is automatically generated from Oyster Transactional Counts and shows when gatelines were restricted. Because this data is system generated, the reason for the closure is not recorded, but this could be due to reasons such as asset failure.
We are unable to confirm if interchange between Jubilee and Overground Lines were permitted or not as these details are not recorded.
