Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30th September 2024 asking for information about road collisions involving L-plated mopeds. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked for the following:
“RTA statistics for incidents in TfL area involving L-plated mopeds over the past five years required.”
I can confirm that we hold the information you require, which is provided in the attached spreadsheet. The data is provided by the police and relates to incidents involving provisional licence, smaller capacity motorcycle riders (under 125cc), who were involved in a personal injury collision. Note that we only receive the license details enabling us to collate such data for police recorded collisions, and online self-reported collisions in London (which are not included in the data because we do not know whether the driver held a provisional licence or not) now account for around 40% of the collisions records we receive. Data is for the last five full years (2019-2023) and for collisions within the GLA area.
