TfL Ref: 2098-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 November 2022 asking for information about bus route 240.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked: Please may I request the following information for time period 01.06.2022-22.11.2022 route 240 between Golders Green and Edgware and Edgware and Golders Green during the bus operating times:

1/ official timetable for all bus stops
2/ actual bus arrival times at each bus stop
3/ number of passengers boarding at each bus stop

Can the data be provided in csv or xls format please and include information for each day and each bus stop on both routes.

Please see the document in the attached zip folder which contains the scheduled departure times and the actual arrival and departure times at each bus stop on route 240 (both directions) between 01/06/2022 and 22/11/2022 as requested. Please expand the column widths to see the data where necessary.

When reviewing the data, please note the following:

Some trips are marked with ‘unscheduled’ flag, meaning the same trip number was fully or partially operated by two buses.

Some trips may show no actual arrival/departure times. This is because:
  1. The trip / part trip was not operated (e.g. due to traffic delays, mechanical breakdown, public incident, staff issues, etc.);
  2. The trip operated on diversion and did not serve some scheduled stops;
  3. The trip operated normally in service and was not recorded by the iBus system (e.g. due to technical issues).

The actual arrival and departure times may be identical. This is because:
  1. Buses did not stop at the stoppoint and passed by;
  2. No arrival times are recorded for the first stops (the system assigns the departure time);
  3. No departure times are recorded for the last stops (the system assigns the arrival times).

With regard to bus boarding data for the dates and route requested, please see the second document in the zip folder (bus boarding data). Please note that they are aggregated in 15 minute intervals as we don't retain individual Oyster taps longer than 8 weeks in our data warehouse.

The bus timetable for route 240 is available on our website here: https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/timetable/240/?fromId=490009902S&direction=outbound
