FOI request detail

LGBT Agencies

Request ID: FOI-2084-2122
Date published: 12 January 2022

You asked

1. Does TFL use any external agency for LGBT training and publicity? like Stonewall or something similar. What was the cost spent and is this a once a year cost and at what time of the year was this done. 2. Has TFL made any changes to staff toilets and changing rooms as a result of recommendations from the above. 3. Is having He/him, she/her etc in your email signature or in stationary a mandatory thing for all TFL colleagues now? 4. The poster advertising spaces on underground lines has been used for promoting an enhanced LGBT rainbow motif with new arrow shape which I think for transgender or other newer recent expressions. How much are these poster spaces cost for normal paid business customers. 5. Does TFL allow advertising for political purposes on the tube lines or is this against the rules?

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-2084-2122

Thank you for your request received on 12 December 2021 asking for information about LGBT+ agencies.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

1.         Does TFL use any external agency for LGBT training and publicity? like Stonewall or something similar. What was the cost spent and is this a once a year cost and at what time of the year was this done.

Training is provided internally by our learning and development solutions or via our Outbound Staff Network Group.

We have the Press Office and an internal marketing team that are primarily responsible for any TfL publicity. If you are referring to any specific publicity, such as Pride, please provide further details on the information you require.

2.         Has TFL made any changes to staff toilets and changing rooms as a result of recommendations from the above.

No external training is provided therefore no changes have been made.

3.  Is having He/him, she/her etc in your email signature or in stationary a mandatory thing for all TFL colleagues now?

Staff have the option to include pronouns in email signatures, powerpoint presentations, audible digital voice signatures and other forms of communication. They can also include pronouns on name badges.

The choice to use these is down to the individual employee but we do encourage these as it helps cohesion of a diverse workforce that is reflective of the breadth of diversity in London and is not synonymous with, but is inclusive of, Trans and Non-Binary identities.

4.         The poster advertising spaces on underground lines has been used for promoting an enhanced LGBT rainbow motif with new arrow shape which I think for transgender or other newer recent expressions. How much are these poster spaces cost for normal paid business customers.

It is not possible to give a value from a commercial perspective. The space does not have a value as it has not been sold on the commercial market. Vinyls were up at Green Park, Vauxhall and North Greenwich stations, and we had two Pride progress flags at Dalston and Vauxhall. None of these used existing advertising spaces, but were instead applied directly to walls. The changes were made to reflect Trans and Non Binary identities, as well as representing Black Asian and Minority Ethnicity.

5.         Does TFL allow advertising for political purposes on the tube lines or is this against the rules?

All advertising on our estate has to comply with the ASA regulation and our TfL Policy: https://content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-advertising-policy-250219.pdf.
