Request ID: FOI-2080-1920
Date published: 31 October 2019

You asked

As part of the King’s Cross redevelopment I understand that there is s106 funding to improve bus routes. 1. What has been received by TfL and what is still to be received from the developers? 2. There were proposals to extend bus route 394 along Copenhagen Street to Canal Reach. What has happened to this? Are there any plans to extend any TfL bus routes into the King’s Cross Central development?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11 October 2019 asking for information about King's Cross - s106 bus funding.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions and our replies are as follows:

As part of the King’s Cross redevelopment I understand that there is s106 funding to improve bus routes.

  1. What has been received by TfL and what is still to be received from the developers?

£2,116,800 has been received by TfL under Kings Cross planning application reference 2004/2307/P (Kings Cross Central) granted on the 22nd December 2006. This is part 1 of 2 part payments (£4.2m Index Linked)  received in February 2007.  In addition, in May 2016, TfL received payment of £450,000, from planning reference number 2012/5552/P - Maiden Lane Estate. Some of this funding has been used for the development of route 390 which has seen an increase in frequency from 7.5 buses per hour to 10 buses per hour.  We are still  to receive the part 2 payment relating to 2004/2307/P of £2,116,800 (Index Linked) and an additional payment of £915,000 to be used for route 214.

2. There were proposals to extend bus route 394 along Copenhagen Street to Canal Reach. What has happened to this? Are there any plans to extend any TfL bus routes into the King’s Cross Central development?

The extension to bus route 394 is dependent on the roads to the north within the site being complete; the developer is still building the final few blocks in the north-west of the site. It’s currently expected that the road network will not be ready until the end of 2022.  A consultation exercise would be carried out before any extension is introduced.
