Our ref: FOI-2074-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 January 2021 asking for information about LED Destination Displays on buses.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and our Information Access Policy. You asked:

Please provide the full destination blinds technical specification for digital and/or LED destination blind units that are fitted to buses operating on the TfL bus network.

Please also provide the full destination blinds technical specification for digital and/or LED destination blind units that will be fitted to buses operating on the TfL bus network going forward.

There are a number of vehicles operating with digital bus destination screens across London on a trial basis. These are products offered by suppliers which we believe could be suitable, and as a result they do have different features and specifications to allow the different technologies to be assessed. Wherever possible the digital screens look to comply with the requirements in the London Vehicle Bus Specification for paper blinds in terms of size and layout.

We are now considering what the requirements for digital screens might look like in future subject to further development, research and testing.
