Cycling accidents due to poor visibility/darkness

You asked
Hi.
I’m hoping you could supply me with any useful figures and date periods for the following information:
• accidents reported relating to the Santander cycle scheme users & including when it was previously the Barclays Bank cycle scheme
• accidents reported for all cycle users
With regards to the information requested above, would it be at all possible to just include the accidents reported in the hours of darkness or poor visibility?
My reasoning for this information is to assist myself with the design of a safety feature I currently have being made.
As you are well aware cycling is on the up not only in London but literally all over and to be able to design and make a safety feature which could potentially make riding a bike a lot safer on the roads would be a huge benefit to all involved.
Kind regards

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 October 2017 asking for information about collisions involving cycle hire users.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
Please find attached three spreadsheets showing reported accidents for 2015, 2016 and 2017. The spreadsheets also show the dates and times of the accidents as requested. Please be advised that we have only been able to provide this data from 2015 onwards as to go back further than this and extract the relevant data would take an excessive amount of time. We do not record whether the accidents occurred in the hours of darkness, however the accident times have been included, which should assist you. Please note that the number of accidents shown do not indicate whether the cyclist was injured or not.
Please also find a further spreadsheet all collisions resulting in a pedal cyclist casualty. The latest information we have received from the police is up to 31 December 2016. The spreadsheet shows the breakdown of collisions by light conditions (light and dark), we do not receive information relating to ‘poor visibility’.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
