Freedom of Information request - Fares Policy for Oval
Request ID: FOI-2049-2324 Date published: 02 October 2023
You asked
My request is regarding project Oval and the launch of the first 53 stations as announced by the Department for Transport on 4 July 2023 (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/53-train-stations-to-benefit-from-tap-in-tap-out-rollout).
Can you please provide the detailed Fares Policy used to calculate all auxiliary and extension fares for journeys involving the 53 stations.
To be clear I am not asking for the amounts of the fares themselves, merely a detailed explanation of the policy/methodology/basis applied to set or calculate the fares.
Assuming you hold this information can you please also confirm the dates on which the policy was first requested, drafts prepared and finally when it was agreed and signed off by all relevant parties/stakeholders.

Our ref: FOI-2049-2324/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 September 2023 asking for information about the fares policy for Project Oval.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. The fares policy for the Oval stations is determined by the Train Operating Companies. We will only hold the individual fares values when those are provided. We therefore do not hold the detailed explanation of the policy/methodology/basis applied to set or calculate the fares, which you have requested.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
