Thank you for your emails received by us on 17 January 2017 asking for information about how many renewal Private Hire drivers and new Private Hire applicants have taken the English test since 14th October 2016.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. Your two requests asked for the following:

1 How many new private hire applicants have taken the English test?
a How many passed at first attempt?
b How many passed after retest?
c How many failed at first attempt?
d How many failed after retest?

Since 14th October 2016:
1 How many renewal private hire drivers have taken the English test?
a How many passed at first attempt?
b How many passed after retest?
c How many failed at first attempt?
d How many failed after retest?

We do not currently hold information that would enable us to report on whether the individual taking the English test is a new Private Hire applicant or in the process of renewing their Private Hire License. I am sorry we are unable to assist you with your enquiry. Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
