TfL Ref 1999-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 January 2021 asking for a breakdown of allocations for the Active Travel fund Tranche 2 by borough.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

You asked:  Please can you provide a breakdown of allocations for the Active travel fund Tranche 2 by borough.

The London Streetspace Programme (LSP), through which Tranche 2 of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Active Travel Fund will be delivered, is divided into two funding streams: Strategic Cycle Routes, and Non-Cycling.  The latter of these encompasses Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)and School Streets. The LSP is creating extra space across the capital to enable more people to walk and cycle safely while social distancing. More than 90km of new or upgraded cycle lanes have been delivered or are under construction so far and 22,500m2 of vital extra space for people walking has also been created.

On the Cycling side, initial allocations are given to boroughs to commence design works.  Once completed, boroughs can apply for further funding to implement their designs.  This additional funding is subject to availability and not all schemes will be funded through to completion.  The initial allocations which are attached are now final, and no further design funding is currently due to be allocated.

Within the Non-Cycling workstream, TfL commits to funding the full cost of schemes it approves, subject to ongoing reviews with the boroughs to ensure schemes remain on track for delivery.  At present we have committed the majority of our funding for this workstream, with a small amount left to allocate in the coming weeks.

A borough’s total allocation to date will be their Cycling allocation plus their Non-Cycling allocation.
