Our ref: FOI-1997-1920/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 October 2019 asking for information about Hampstead Road.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

We will ensure that the roads under our responsibility remain safe, following the Well Maintained Highways Code of Practice for Highway Maintenance. The Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) is inspected on a regular basis, an effective way of assessing and recording the relative risks associated with potential circumstances of network condition. There are three categories of inspections – safety, service and condition and each of these inspections provide the basic information for addressing the core objectives of highway maintenance namely network safety, serviceability and sustainability. This information is used to develop maintenance programmes. In addition please find attached an excerpt from our London Highways Alliance Contract services document which outlines our contractual obligations for road inspections.

A monthly safety inspection is carried out at Hampstead Road whereby our contractors undertake a walked inspection along both sides of the road and check for defects particularly relating to the road surface. A DVI (Detailed Visual Inspection) survey is also carried out on Hampstead Road every two years which looks at the road surface in much greater detail recording each issue with the road surface whether it meets the levels or not as outlined in the attached document. This DVI survey also informs our Investment team for future programmes that may include carriageway resurfacing.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
