Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7th September 2023 asking for information about access to Charing Cross London Underground station.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. 

Specifically you asked:

Please can you tell me the reason for closure and estimated timeframe for reopening of the pedestrian subways allowing access to Charing Cross tube station on Adelaide street WC2 William IV Street WC2”.

Please note that these subways are owned by Westminster City Council rather than Transport for London. I understand that they have been closed since the start of the pandemic, with the decision to close made following discussion with a number of different agencies, including the Council, St Mungo’s, National Rail and ourselves due to issues of rough sleeping.
