Our ref: FOI-1986-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 December 2021 asking for information about National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

National Hate Crime Awareness Week is an important week for us and our policing partners. This year each day focused on, but was not limited to, different themes based on protected characteristics: Race, Faith, Sexual Orientation, Disability and Transgender identity.

Between 2017 and 2021 visits to places of faith included Islamic Centres, Sikh Temples, Sivan Hindu temples, synagogues, visits to mosques in Balham and Tooting and various churches, local places of worship in Enfield & Haringey, BAME churches of worship in Woolwich (of which in 2020 and 2021 were Covid compliant). This period included engagement with Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Sikh and Muslim Communities and stakeholders such as Faiths Forum London, Supreme Sikh Council UK, Antisemitism UK and Hope not Hate.

We have monthly days of engagement across London mainly in our transport hubs focused on but not limited to different protected characteristics and faith remains an important part of this.  We would encourage anyone who would like to have direct engagement with their community to contact us on [email protected] . We would welcome any collaborative working on how we could improve our hate crime engagement days.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.
