Door opening beeps and door closing beeps for 1995/1996/2009/S stocks.
Request ID: FOI-1979-1819
Date published: 23 November 2018
You asked
. I am writing in regards to this request - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/door_opening_beeps_and_door_clos# - which you refused a few months ago as you claimed it would place a burden on your resources.
I would like to make this new request to narrow my request down to just request four stocks instead of the twenty plus stocks i requested before.
Please can you provide the sound files of both the door opening beeps and the door closing beeps for just these four stocks.
• 1995 stock
• 1996 stock
• 2009 stock
• S stock
These are the beeps/alarms/noises (whatever they are called) that sound when the doors are opening and when the doors are closing.
So i am requesting eight recordings in total (the door opening beeps for the four stocks and the door closing beeps for the four stocks).
Hopefully this narrowed down request will be able to come within the FOI Act.
We answered
TfL Ref: 1979-1819
Thank you for your email received by us on 26 October 2018 asking for audio recordings of the doors opening and closing in relation to our transport services.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. You asked:

Please note that we are refusing your request under section 14(1) of the Act. This is because we are unable to provide these audio recordings without an extensive search to determine where they are held because these sound files are not held centrally.
This is information in which there is very limited public interest but would require significant resource to locate, extract and collate the information you have requested. Whilst transparency is a vital part of our work, we consider that to undertake the necessary time needed to locate, review and extract the information needed for these audio recordings as required for the purposes of public release to answer your request would place an unreasonable burden on our resources.
Our principal duty is to provide an effective transport service for London and we consider that answering this request would require disproportionate effort to the benefit of providing it. Processing the request would be a significant distraction from our work managing the TfL network, requiring re-allocation of already limited resources and placing an unacceptable burden on a small number of personnel. We do wish to clarify that whilst we consider that your request falls under section 14(1) of the FOI Act, this does not reflect a conclusion that it has been your intention to deliberately place an undue burden on our resources.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
