Our ref: FOI-1954-2223/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 November 2022 asking for information about the location of Santander hire bike number 51979.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
This bike was collected as an abandoned bike on 16/10/22 and then released back into the scheme on 29/10/22. The period the bike was missing prior to this was between 09/09/22 – 16/10/22. Since then the bike has been in the scheme and used by customers as normal. During the 14 days prior to your request, the bike was within the scheme and available for hire for customers and there is no specific station the bike has regularly returned to.
Please see below a screenshot showing the recorded journeys for this bike during the period 26/10 – 11/11.
There is no recorded data between 26/10 and 30/10 as the bike was at the workshop.
Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation we are unable to provide you with the requested GPS locations during this period, as this would show individual journeys, which is considered to be personal data, and is exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
