Information request, cycle sign Tooting Bec Common
Request ID: FOI-1947-2223 Date published: 01 December 2022
You asked
On what authority did Transport for London put up a cycling sign on Tooting Bec Common at the junction of the A214 Tooting Bec Road and B242 Garrad’s Road? Who was consulted about this?
Cycling is not permitted anywhere on the common, other than along the designated cycle route on the other side of the common. The sign directs cyclists onto a pedestrian footpath which does not in any case meet the minimum cycle infrastructure standards in terms of width and leads to conflicts and potential danger for those on foot.
Please do not refer me to Lambeth or Wandsworth Councils as both have denied any knowledge of this sign.
I look forward to hearing from you,
We answered
Our ref: FOI-1947-2223/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8 November 2022 asking for information about the cycle sign on Tooting Bec Common.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. It does appear that the sign you refer to was installed by TfL, however our records do not indicate when or why the sign was installed. Streetview shows the sign was in place in 2008, and the majority of our records are only kept for seven years.
I understand that since the time of your request, the sign has been removed.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
