FOI request detail

BAE Systems advert Westminster Tube station

Request ID: FOI-1935-1617
Date published: 06 March 2017

You asked

I'm writing to request, under the Freedom of Information Act, information about the BAE Systems advert at Westminster tube station. In particular, I would like to know when the advertisement was put up, whether the contract to display the advertisement is ongoing or whether it has an end date (and what that end date is) and how much TFL charges BAE Systems for the advertisement.

We answered

Dear

TfL Ref: FOI-1935-1617

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 January 2017 asking for information about advertising.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

The BAE advertisement we currently have displayed at Westminster station is a 12 month campaign. It was installed on 26th September 2016 and is scheduled to be removed on 24th September 2017.

Information on our overall advertising revenue, as well as detail on our approach, can be found in our Annual Report which is published at the following link: http://content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-annual-report-2015-16.pdf

Disclosure of information about the revenue received through this advertisement campaign is likely to prejudice our commercial interests if it is disclosed to the wider public. This is because provision of this information is likely to negatively affect our ability to obtain maximum revenue from future campaigns of the same or similar nature by providing a benchmark figure. This, in turn, would hinder our negotiating position during discussions with interested parties. This information would therefore be covered by section 43(2) of the FOI Act which exempts information where disclosure would be likely to prejudice commercial interests.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise that there is a public interest in openness and transparency in our dealings but we feel that there is a greater public interest in ensuring that we are able to maximise the potential of our revenue streams, including advertising.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
