You asked

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400H City is used on routes 20, 26, 78, 133, 333, 388, N26, N133, N550 and N551, operated by Arriva and HCT Plus. Sullivan Buses currently use the Enviro400 MMC for route 217, they feature interior colours and seat moquette from the New Routemaster bus. • Was TfL involved in the project with Alexander Dennis to adopt New Routemaster styling including exterior design and interior colour and seat moquette for buses used for these routes? • If possible, can you release survey results and design specification for the models and routes mentioned above? The Wright SRM is a 'New Routemaster' in form of two-doors and single staircase. RATP Dev London United purchased 6 of these vehicles when they operated route 13, now they currently use these vehicles for route 183. Go-Ahead London only have 2 of the SRM with Volvo B5LHC chassis for route 37. • Was TfL involved in the project with Wrightbus to develop the two-door, single staircase SRM involving exterior design and interior colour scheme?

TfL Ref: FOI-1915-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 22 December 2020, asking for information about the two-door, single staircase New Routemaster.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

• Was TfL involved in the project with Alexander Dennis to adopt New Routemaster styling including exterior design and interior colour and seat moquette for buses used for these routes?

We have not been directly involved, however we meet regularly with bus manufacturers and this would have been discussed with them. The styling of buses was a matter for the manufacturer of those vehicles.

• If possible, can you release survey results and design specification for the models and routes mentioned above?

Whilst we are not sure what survey results and design specifications you are referring to, we weren’t involved in the design so this is not something we would hold.

• Was TfL involved in the project with Wrightbus to develop the two-door, single staircase SRM involving exterior design and interior colour scheme?

We have not been involved directly, although we met with Wrightbus and other bus manufacturers regularly around product development including an awareness of their proposals for this bus type. WrightBus developed further models for the UK market ahead of completing their order of around 1,000 New Routemasters for London. This was a decision made by the company at the time.
