We answered
TfL Ref: 1914-1819
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 October 2018 asking for information about laser / infrared fatigue detection devices on London Buses.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Operator RATP Dev (http://www.ratpdevlondon.co.uk) is trialling fatigue detection technology developed by a company called Seeing Machines with our cooperation. As far as we are aware, this is the only operator using the type of system on routes 119 and 202 in London at this time but it has attracted wider interest among operators who, as independent companies, may wish to look at such systems in future.
These systems have been successfully used on London’s trams for more than a year. The technology uses advanced sensors and image processing technology. Small amounts of infrared light are used to allow the sensor to detect physical signs of fatigue in the dark (significantly less than what is received from sunlight).
If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
