Our ref: FOI-1905-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18 November 2021 asking for information about Streetspace schemes.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

In response to the Pandemic, and as a condition of TfL’s funding support from central Government, in May 2020 all London Boroughs were invited to bid for measures to assist walking and cycling to deter a car led recovery at a time when the capacity of public transport was reduced for social distancing reasons, under a new programme called London Streetspace Programme.

Individual scheme bid submissions from LB Southwark were considered by TfL under three broad headings; low traffic neighbourhoods, school streets, and cycling. LB Southwark were awarded funding of £147,000 for schemes in the Dulwich Village and East Dulwich areas which was paid once works had been done. This is evidenced in the screenshot below from the Borough portal in SAP software. We do not hold a more itemised cost breakdown.

In 2021/22 we are allocating

  • £32k for Dulwich Village
  • £58k for Dulwich Village Streetscape

However we similarly do not hold a detailed cost breakdown and at this point in time we have yet to receive any claims and pay these against 2021/22 budgets.

In 2019/20 prior to the pandemic and London Streetspace Programme, TfL did allocate funding of £20,000 for cycling measures in Dulwich Village on Quietway 7.  TfL also funded speed reduction measures in Lordship Lane following introduction of a 20mph speed limit, valued at £140,000 aligned with creating a more comfortable environment for walking and cycling.
