I'd like to know since you removed off peak access to bus lanes for cars, what the reduction of bus journey times has been vs the amount of increased pollution and journey times for cars that can no longer use them off peak

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1902-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2022, asking for information about 24/7 bus lanes.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. We hold some of the information you have requested. Specifically you asked:

I'd like to know since you removed off peak access to bus lanes for cars,  what the reduction of bus journey times has been vs the amount of increased pollution and journey times for cars that can no longer use them off peak.

Every road and bus lane have their own variables, network conditions and vulnerabilities which can all affect bus performance. Therefore we are not able to provide a specific answer to your question.

However, the trial has had a positive effect on bus journey times, in particular in the early morning and late evening, and on Sundays.

Monitoring of general traffic journey times has evidenced that the trial has not had a significantly adverse impact on general traffic or on the wider performance of the road network.  Where general traffic journey times have worsened there is no clear evidence to suggest this has resulted from the trial. There is also no indication that the trial caused any impact on air quality.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
