TfL Ref: 1875-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 September 2019 asking for information about the CCTV retention period on buses.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
CCTV is normally overwritten on buses after 240 hours. It is mainly kept for security and incident investigation reasons and can be requested by the police immediately after a reported crime or road traffic accident. In the event a request is made by officers, it is downloaded and retained indefinitely. If a member of the public wants CCTV of themselves on a bus, they need to go to the operator directly (see https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/who-runs-your-bus and GDPR/DPA provisions will apply.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
