Date published: 14 November 2018

You asked

Follow on from FOI-1289-1819/GH Thanks for the response that you sent to me on this in August. You indicated that the 2017 data I asked for would be available by the end of September this year – as it is now mid-October can I have the data please? For the sake of clarity what I am asking for is: How many road traffic collisions resulting in at least one fatality where the perpetrator failed to stop at the scene of the incident were reported in London in 2017?

We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-1872-1819

Thank you for your request received on 17 October 2018 asking for information about road traffic collisions.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

As stated in our previous response, failing to stop at the scene of a collision is illegal. TfL and the Metropolitan Police are targeting London’s most dangerous drivers as part of the new Vision Zero approach to reducing road danger, as well as working to raise awareness of reporting collisions. Collision data for London is supplied to TfL by the Metropolitan Police Service and the City of London Police.

There were 18 fatal collisions recorded as involving a hit and run vehicle in 2017.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
