Our Ref: FOI-1860-2122
Thank you for your request received on 19 November 2021 asking for information about the Costain Skanska joint venture (CSJV) contract for Crossrail.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:
What other contracts did Costain/Skanska have on the Crossrail project?
CSJV is a party to the following contracts on the Crossrail Project:
C248 – Pudding Mill Lane portal Civils TBM Reception Chamber & 400KV Diversion Diaphragm Wall C295 – Thames Water UL asset monitoring C330 – Royal Oak portal civils C360 – Eleanor Street and Mile End shafts civil works C405 – Paddington station main works C411 – Bond Street station advanced works piling and diaphragm walls C412 – Bond Street station main works
In addition, CSJV were London Underground’s contractor for the Bakerloo Line Link (Contract LU15).
Why did Costain/Skanska lose the Bond street contract in 2020?
In response to the impact of coronavirus, Crossrail Ltd reviewed and restructured the remaining works across the project that are essential to the opening of the railway. This included Bond Street, which was uniquely affected due to the volume of work remaining and the number of people required on site. This meant that the work remaining at Bond Street for Trial Running needed to be replanned.
Given the unique circumstances at Bond Street, it was mutually agreed by Crossrail and contractor CSJV that the existing contract should conclude. Crossrail Ltd has continued to oversee completion of the remaining works at Bond Street.
