On the evening of 2 August 2024 TFL erected a temporary barrier at the junction of Vauxhall Grove and Harleyford Road to control crowds walking towards Vauxhall Station from the Kia Oval at the end of an evening cricket match. I attach three images from the TFL camera at this location evidencing this. Would you please confirm that: 1. A similar barrier was erected at this location on the evening of Friday 7 June 2. TfL Ref: 1836-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 September 2024 asking for information about temporary barriers at the junction of Vauxhall Grove and Harleyford Road.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You specifically asked: On the evening of 2 August 2024 TFL erected a temporary barrier at the junction of Vauxhall Grove and Harleyford Road to control crowds walking towards Vauxhall Station from the Kia Oval at the end of an evening cricket match.

I attach three images from the TFL camera at this location evidencing this.

Would you please confirm that:

1.    A similar barrier was erected at this location on the evening of Friday 7 June

2.    A TFL employee was instructed not to let vehicles exit Vauxhall Grove into Harleyford Road whilst this barrier was in operation.

1.TfL do not provide traffic management for events at the Oval - a  private traffic management company is contracted by Surrey Cricket Club (SCC) to provide traffic management. All restrictions on the Transport for London Route Network have to be permitted by TfL. Barriers are placed to separate traffic from the large number of pedestrians experience at egress from an event, and these barriers are placed in the road to effectively close the bus lane. To our knowledge this road should not be closed during events at the Oval and we are unable to confirm if a barrier was at this location on the evening of 7 June.

2.Stewards are provided by the traffic management company working under contract to Surrey Cricket Club.

We will be meeting with SCC to debrief on their operation and how they manage the egress going forwards.
