Can you please let me know when the ULEZ started operating on the 1st of April 2019, how long was the warning period? I would like to know the date and month the warning period ended ?as some motorists received warnings for entering the zone and some received penalty notices,thank you.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18^th September 2019 asking for information about the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. 

Specifcally you asked:

“Can you please let me know when the ULEZ started operating on the 1st of April 2019, how long was the warning period? I would like to know the date and month the warning period ended?”

As the scheme was so new, between its inception in April and to the 10^th May 2019 we issued warning notices rather than penalties to drivers seen in the Ultra Low Emission Zone in non-compliant vehicles. A small number of penalties were issued in error during this period which were subsequently cancelled.
