TfL Ref: FOI-1829-1920

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29th August 2019 asking for information about various aspects of TfL services.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.

Your questions are addressed in turn below:

“Please let me know total cost of Crossrail project and when is completion date and how many firms are doing works on the Crossrail project and how much money they will be paid for their jobs….”

Answer: In July 2019 an overall funding envelope of £17.8 billion was agreed for the Crossrail project. Crossrail Limited has identified a six-month delivery window between October 2020 and March 2021 for the start of services through central London. A list of Crossrail suppliers and contractors is published on the Crossrail website here:

http://www.crossrail.co.uk/sustainability/economic-sustainability/direct-crossrail-contract-opportunities?page=1

TfL also publishes periodically all expenditure of over £500 on Crossrail here:

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/expenditure-over-250

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of this information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.

Note that more details about the Crossrail project overall can be found online at:

“….and let me know if TfL will buy more new buses for Dial A Ride…New drivers are needed for Dial A Ride…so let me know if new drivers will be employed…”

Answer: 166 new Dial A Ride buses are due to enter service, with the first 10 being delivered this month. We are also training a new group of drivers at present, with a further intake due for the Autumn.

“Which firms provide brand new trains for London Underground and total costs to hire such trains or are they bought outright…Please let me know if German firm Siemens provide new trains for London Underground and the Japanese firm Hitachi do they supply new trains for Underground….”.

Answer: As announced in November 2018 (see Press Release attached), Siemens are to design and manufacture new trains for the Underground. The trains are being bought outright. Hitachi is not at present supplying any new trains to London Underground.

“Will Eurostar be affected after Brexit or not…”

Answer: Eurostar is not a service that comes under TfL’s jurisdiction. You may therefore wish to direct your question to the Department for Transport (at Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London, SW4 4DR). Note that information about visiting Europe after Brexit can be found on the GOV.UK website here:

https://www.gov.uk/visit-europe-brexit

“And let me know how long is bus operation contract please and how much money will be paid to all bus firms for their contract for year 2019-20.”

Answer: Bus operating contracts are awarded for terms of five years, and if minimum performance standards are met they are extended by two more years. How much operators are paid depends on how well they perform. At the mid-year point of 2019-20 it is not possible to say how much money will be paid to operators for the year. Note that details of the contracts with operators – including the outset value of the contracts upon agreement - are published online here: https://www.gov.uk/contracts-finder

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
