Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12th November 2021 asking for information about the ULEZ scheme.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Can you reveal any proposed future dates and levels of emissions thresholds & charges being discussed for the ULEZ post 25/10/21. Most London citizens and businesses need to plan on a 3-5 year horizon. Central government does not know what planning or business are - so can you help?

There are currently no plans to change the emission standards or charge levels for the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The Mayor’s Transport Strategy (a copy of which can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/about-tfl/the-mayors-transport-strategy) outlines that the Mayor, through TfL, will keep existing and planned road user charging schemes, including the Congestion Charge, Low Emission Zone, ULEZ and the Silvertown Tunnel schemes, under review to ensure they prove effective in furthering or delivering the policies and proposals of the strategy. Any changes to these schemes, including tightening the standards for the ULEZ, would need to be fully consulted on before they are put into practice.

In the London Environment Strategy (a copy of which can be found here: https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/london-environment-strategy) and the Mayor’s Transport Strategy the Mayor also committed to deliver a Zero Emission Zone in central London from 2025, and some of the boroughs are also considering local proposals. As with any changes to existing schemes, any new scheme would need to be fully consulted on.
