We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1817-1819

Thank you for your  request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 October 2018.

Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you requested. You asked:

Please can you provide as a percentage of total daily trips -the trips made by cyclists compared with all trips on public transport. I believe it is around 4% but it is difficult to find the data.

The data you have requested is available (up to 2016) in our latest Travel in London report, which is published here: https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/travel-in-london-report-10.pdf

In 2016, 2% of all trips were by bicycle, with 37% by public transport.

Data for 2017 will be published in the next Travel in London report, which will be released by the end of the month.

Therefore in accordance with the FOI Act, TfL is not obliged to supply you with 2017 trip data as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act. In this instance the exemption has been applied as the information you have requested is intended for future publication.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure. In this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,

Melissa Nichols
