Request ID: FOI-1811-2223 Date published: 18 November 2022
You asked
According to a question to the London Mayor, there were 2,784 signalised junctions in Greater London in November 2020. Of these, 261 did not have any pedestrian crossing facilities.
Please provide a spreadsheet listing the 261 junctions with traffic signals but no safe pedestrian phase by borough and include any prioritisation for fixing them along with dates for any schemes that are in TfL’s project pipeline.

Our Ref: FOI-1811-2223
Thank you for your request received on 28 October 2022 asking for information about pedestrian crossing facilities.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
Please see the attached list of 209 signalised junctions in London that currently do not have a pedestrian crossing facility. The original list of 261 junctions included temporary traffic signals which were controlled by our Urban Traffic Control system. This list includes which boroughs the junctions are in so you can see there are none in Islington.
With regards to TfL’s prioritisation and plans to add facilities, from this list, we identified 158 sites where crossing facilities could be installed. Several locations were deemed unsuitable for reasons including those:
o that had no footways or access for pedestrians to anywhere on the signalised junction o at bus gates o at two-way shuttle signals at narrow bridges and tunnels o at motorway and grade separated junctions o at approaches to tunnels
Reducing danger to people walking and cycling is central to the Mayor's Vision Zero goal of eliminating death and serious injury on the transport network, which is why we're working with boroughs to improve infrastructure. Some of these locations will receive facilities as part of borough schemes by the end of the current funding deal in March 2024 – we will be able to confirm which ones by the end of March 2023. The remaining locations will be planned for implementation once funding is available.
