We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-1796-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25th October 2022 asking for information about bus emergency window devices.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Can you please confirm if TfL specifies Safe-T-Punch™ as TfL's chosen break-glass emergency window device for buses? And are these devices supplied to TfL in buses received from Alexander Dennis Ltd?”
I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
TfL does not specify one particular manufacturer for these devices but the Safe-T-Punch is one such solution that meets the vehicle type approval regulations. However, we do not hold information on every supplier for Alexander Dennis, and we do not specify the use of one particular manufacturer. Alexander Dennis is free to procure from any supplier that meets the vehicle type approval regulations. They may use the Safe-T-Punch on some models and a different supplier on others.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
