TfL Ref: FOI-1787-1920

Thank you for your request of 13th September 2019 asking for information about the BCES bus driver survey.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Your questions are addressed in turn below:

Question 1: What is the actual formula used to measure BCES score?

Answer: The score is created by using a formula that combines the score achieved for each measure with the weight for that measure. The formula can be expressed simply as the measure score multiplied by the measure weight. The overall score is equal to the sum of all products divided by the sum of all the weights.

Question 2: How does high, medium and low priority effect the score?

Answer: High, medium and low are broad terms which cover the values (weightings) placed on different sections of the assessment. The weightings have been designed to align with the things that matter most to customers in their day-to-day use of bus services. A good score for a high priority measure will have a greater impact on the overall assessment score than a good score in a low priority measure.

Question 3: How many assessments in last year been challenged is last year and what how many appeals been accepted?

Answer: Between the four-week period 6 of 2018/19 (starting on 19th August 2018) and period 5 of 2019/20 (ending 18th August 2019) 0.76% of assessments (149) had one or more measures / scores challenged by an operator, out of 19,657 assessments. 100% of these have been responded to and investigated when supporting evidence has been received. Of the 19,567 assessments, 0.34% (66) were adjusted following the acceptance of the operator’s challenge.
