TfL Ref: FOI-1785-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 10 November 2021, asking for information about cycle hoops in the London Borough of Lewisham.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
The Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) forms a small part of the road network in Lewisham, therefore the majority of cycle parking is installed on borough owned roads, including the funding we allocated to them via our Local Implementation Plan (LIP). For future plans, we will continue to invest in the delivery of more cycle parking through LIPs and our Healthy Streets portfolios. Boroughs are asked to submit proposals to TfL based on their understanding of demand for cycle parking in their boroughs. We also use our own analysis to estimate demand at a pan-London level – more details are available in the Cycle Parking Implementation Plan . For the space taken by a standard stand and parked bikes, please refer to our design standards in the (LCDS Chapter 8).
Please find attached our asset report for Lewisham cycle stands from 2016/2017 to 2020/2021. This covers cycle stands installed during this time funded by TfL via the LIPs portfolio but we do not hold details of layouts, positions or the reasons why the sites were selected. For this information and supporting technical details, I would suggest you approach the borough.
During 2020 we installed the below listed cycle stands on the TLRN as part of our response to the pandemic. The reason for installing the cycle stands was part of a strategy pan London to encourage cycling as a mode of transport to local shopping areas, hospitals, schools and transport hubs where possible on the TLRN.
