I'm looking to gain insight on the year over year evolution of how people are paying for their travel on the rail network in Greater London (e.g. 2010 - 2020).
Breakdown of payments in terms of transaction volume and £,
- Contactless (Bank cards)
- Oyster Cards
- Mobile etickets (e.g. Trainline)
- Paper tickets
- Other

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm TfL holds some of the information you require.
All the information we hold on Pay As You Go data for Oyster card and Contactless is available on the TfL website here. Unfortunately, without understanding what you mean by “rail”, we cannot provide information on season or printed tickets.
Please note if it is National Rail services that you are interested in, we do not have all the information you have requested.
