Dear Transport for London,
what is the full number of journeys in the TFL system per year (full 2017, full 2018, 2019,2020,2021 + 2022 to date - all modes metro, rail, train,..)
Which type of different products are used for these journeys (Oyster freedom, Oyster Season, Oyster Free, Oyster pay as you go, contactless banking, contactless mobile, others,...) and what is the percentage-split per product of total jouneys.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 21st October 2022 asking for information about Oyster and Contactless usage on the TfL network.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“What is the full number of journeys in the TFL system per year (full 2017, full 2018, 2019,2020,2021 + 2022 to date - all modes metro, rail, train,..)
Which type of different products are used for these journeys (Oyster freedom, Oyster Season, Oyster Free, Oyster pay as you go, contactless banking, contactless mobile, others,...) and what is the percentage-split per product of total journeys.”
I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
Please see the spreadsheet attached (note that there are several worksheets within it). Note that:
We produce journey numbers in 4 week accounting periods and not by calendar year. Therefore we have provided totals for Periods 11-10 which is the closest we can produce to calendar years.
DLR, Tram, London Overground and TfL Rail/Elizabeth line use automatic passenger counts or load weigh and do not count journeys by ticket type.
London Underground (LU) and Buses do count journeys by ticket type and we have included these breakdowns along with the proportions.
In addtion we can provide a split of Contactless journeys, card vs mobile, going back to 2018 as follows:
