We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1747-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5th November 2021 asking for information about ULEZ revenue.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please provide the total sum of money Transport for London made on Monday, the 25th October 2021 from the Ultra Low Emissions Zone 'ULEZ'.

Please provide the sum of money made from:

* Daily ULEZ charge

* Reduced penalty charge

* Penalty charge

Please provide the number of vehicles that the ULEZ charge applied to on the day.

Please separate this figure:

* from the new extended zone (extending from but not including the North and South circular Road) and

* the inner zone (where the congestion charge zone also already applies).”

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. However, note that while the ULEZ was extended on 25 October it now operates as one zone and we do not distinguish between the original and extended zone. We do not record whether a charge has been purchased, or a penalty issued, for travel in the original or extended area of the zone, and so we cannot separate the data as requested.

For the data that we do hold, this is being withheld under section 22 of the FOI Act. Section 22 provides an exemption to the release of information where it is due for publication at some future date and where, in all the circumstances of the case, it is reasonable to withhold it until publication.

In this instance the data requested is expected to be published in a report issued by City Hall later this month.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities and the particular public interest in disclosure of this information. However, in this instance it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
