TfL definition of a designated role

Request ID: FOI-1743-1819
Date published: 07 February 2019

You asked

Under the Freedom of Information ACT, can you please provide me with TfL definition of a designated role

We answered

TfL Ref: 1742-1819/1743-1819

Thank you for your emails received by us on 28 September 2018 asking for information about non-operational employee roles in Transport for London (TfL).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

can you please provide me with TfL definition of a designated role

a list of designated roles within TfL and Surface.by job title and payband as defined under TfL R0486 A2 Policy - Unsocial hours, shift working and on-call allowances for TfL non-operational employees.

We do not have a definition of a designated role, nor a specific list of the roles entitled to unsocial hours, shift working and on-call allowance requests for TfL non-operational employees. When such requests are received, they are usually from the Human Resource Business Partners, which have then either been approved by a Director or from an appropriately designated Band 5 level sign-off. We check that such requests comply with policy, and challenge when required.

I can advise that we are in the process of generating a list of those with these allowances to enable us to identify the roles that usually attract these payments.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
