You asked

Can you please confirm the current status of the proposal to connect the North London Line of the London Overground to the interchange at Old Oak Common?

We answered

TfL Ref: 1737-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5 November 2021 asking for information about the current status of the proposal to connect the North London Line of the London Overground to the interchange at Old Oak Common.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. A summary, which reflects the current position, can be found below:

  • TfL continues to promote Old Oak Common Lane station following the last public consultation in late 2017.
  • TfL and OPDC agree that the station is not essential to deliver the quantum of development proposed in the OPDC’s draft Local Plan, but would bring significant connectivity benefits to the local area and the HS2 station and is supported by both parties.
  • The station at Old Oak Common Lane would better link the OPDC Opportunity Area to other parts of London via the London Overground network and would of course link to the nearby HS2 and Elizabeth line station once that station opens. While the station may not unlock many new homes, it would increase the attractiveness and value of those new homes due to the additional connectivity the station would provide.
  • Despite these benefits, there is currently no TfL funding available to seek powers or to construct the station given the current financial restraints.

Please note that the OPDC referred to above is the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation which was set up in 2015 by the Mayor to oversee the regeneration of the area.
